PRESS STATEMENT AS RELEASED BY DEPUTY GENERAL SECRETARY MR MAURICE OPETU

PRESS STATEMENT ON THE CURRENT POSITION OF KNUN-MTRH BRANCH STRIKING NURSES.
Yesterday the 22ndJune 2017, KNUN officials lead by the General Secretary Mr. Seth Panyako, met MTRH Board of Management to discuss their position in ending the nurses’ strike at MTRH.
The following were highlighted:
• Delayed registration of CBA that was signed between the union and the employer (MTRH) since 2015.
• Shoddy job evaluation done by SRC in MTRH that is unimplementable as it under places nurses by two grades e.g. ECN is graded at B2 instead of C2.
It is regrettable that SRC accepted KUDHEIHA CBA for MTRH to adopt Nairobi rates for house allowance but declines the same for KNUN. A clear statement of double standards and vested happy wheels demo interests.
The General Secretary also rejected the position of SRC in under grading nurses equivalent to subordinate staff. The General Secretary further insisted that Enrolled Nurse (iii) should be equivalent to C2 since MTRH is a state corporation.
SRC has just realized it made numerous mistakes in their report released a year ago and has agreed to review it and communicate in due course. Therefore nurses will continue with their strike until SRC come up with a credible and professional report.
We therefore urge all our nurses to remain firm on the strike until their demands are met and or until they receive a communication from the General Secretary of KNUN.

Thank you.
Regards
MAURICE OPETU
DEPUTY GENERAL SECRETARY
